Countryside Survey 2000
Countryside Survey 2000 (CS2000) is a major audit of the British countryside. It has involved both detailed field observations and satellite imagery, which has provided a complete land cover census for Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Intra-governmental Group on Geographic Information (IGGI)
The Intra-governmental Group on Geographic Information was established in 1993 to enable departments to liase effectively and exchange best practice for geographic information.
MAGIC (Multi Agency Geographic Information for the Countryside)
This project is led by Defra's Geographic Information Unit and other organisations involved in the development and implementation of rural policies in England. It involves the collection and use of data on a wide range of land management schemes and countryside and environment designations. It contains an interactive map which allows users to search for places, postcodes, grid references etc and find out information such as environmental designations, landscape information, habitat inventories, administrative info etc.
Land Use Change Statistics (LUCS)
LUCS are now published in two parts each year. 'Residential Development' is released in May and 'Additional Tables' giving further analyses of other land use changes in October.
National Land Use Database - Previously Developed Land (NLUD-PDL)
NLUD-PDL collects data on vacant and derelict sites and other previously developed land and buildings that may be available for redevelopment.

To complement development control statistics, up-to-date information is provided in a regular quarterly statistical release on planning applications.
